A Trex deck and a repaint in Edgewater, NJ
Before and after on a house above the Hudson, all of it done in house: the old timber deck rebuilt in Trex Select, Pebble Gray, with all-black Trex handrails, and the exterior repainted in Benjamin Moore Sweatshirt Gray.
The same house, twice.
Dark brown walls and a weathered timber deck before; Sweatshirt Gray and a gray Trex deck with black rails after.
Two trades, one crew.
Deck rebuilt in Trex Select, Pebble Gray
The old timber deck replaced with composite boards, which do not rot, split or need staining the way the old wood did.
All-black Trex handrails
Black rails that read as a thin line against the view rather than a fence in front of it.
Exterior repainted in Benjamin Moore Sweatshirt Gray
The dark brown walls taken to a light gray, which changes how the whole house sits on the hill.
All of it in house
The carpentry and the painting were done by our own people on the same job, so the deck and the walls around it were finished to each other rather than by two contractors working around each other.
A deck that looks at the river.
The house sits on the hillside above the Hudson, and the deck is where the view is. That is also where the weather comes from: open water to the east and nothing in between, which is hard on timber and on paint alike.
What building and roofing on that ground involves — the wind, the salt-influenced air, the steep lots under the Palisades — is on Edgewater. Deck construction itself, including the connection to the house that every deck depends on, is on decks.
